We have a whole bunch of stuff happening in our world, don’t we? Hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, floods, mudslides and a pile of other things produced by the actions or inactions of us silly humans. So is there any particular significance in the fact that all of this is happening in a relatively short time frame? Is “someone” trying to tell us something? Are we getting a message from the Chairman of the Board of All Existences?

While you are cleaning up the aftermath of Halloween, you may also like to know that yesterday was Reformation Day on the Protestant church calendar. It was on October 31, 1517, that the then-Roman Catholic priest, Martin Luther, nailed his Ninety-five Theses to the door of his church in Wittenberg, Germany, sparking a debate and a series of events that came to be known as the Protestant Reformation. On another door, in present-day, Bristol, Rhode Island, John Anderson, an award-winning wood sculptor, is making his mark on church history.

The word cremation comes from Latin “cremo,” meaning “to burn”—in particular to burn the dead. Temperatures in a crematorium range from about 1400-2100 degrees F. Under these conditions, body and container are almost completely consumed.

A candle is a light source usually consisting of an internal wick which rises through the center of a column of solid fuel. Typically the fuel is some form of wax with paraffin wax being the most common. Prior to the candle being ignited, the wick is saturated with the fuel in its solid form.

My two daughters (a 3 year old and a 2 year old at the time) kept me busy most of the time, so I didn’t get a chance to meet with the new neighbors.
